Student Career Development Day

Mat-Su Career & Technical High School sponsors a “Career Development Day” for our students.  The two main goals for the day are:  1) To introduce the Career & Technical Student Organizations here in Alaska which are; HOSA, BPA, and Skills USA, and 2) To provide workshops with topics relating to career success. These activities support the School Board Goal, “Our schools will promote and welcome families and community members in the education of our youth” and the Mission of the Career Academy focus of Mat-Su Career and Technical High School.

The day will start with keynote speakers from local Business and Industry in each of the four pathways:  Building, Business, Tourism, and Health.  The Fitness Pathway will be combined with Health.

The next sessions may involve workshops in the following areas:  Parliamentary Procedures, Resumes and Interviewing, Speeches, AKCIS, ALEXsys, Win, Dress for Success, Technology in the Workplace, Panels for each pathway on 1) jobs in those pathways, 2) employability skills for the particular jobs. There will be other workshops offered to be determined via results of a student and teacher survey.

These workshops will be taught by employers in the community and facilitated by teachers at Mat-Su Career & Technical High School.  Whenever possible the workshops will involve active participation by the students.
