Superintendent Gene Stone's Bio:
Gene Stone became the Superintendent of Schools for the Mat-Su Borough School District on July 1, 2016. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in both Business Management/Labor Relations and Business Education from Boise State, and a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from UAA. A life-long learner, Mr. Stone recently earned his Superintendent Certification from Lamar University.
An Alaska educator since 1992, Mr. Stone began his career in the Lower Yukon School District where he worked for six years, followed by six years in the North Slope Borough School District serving as a teacher and an administrator. Currently in his 11th year with the Mat-Su Borough School District, Mr. Stone has served as both a principal and Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. Throughout his tenure Mr. Stone has gained a comprehensive view of the District and has forged strong and meaningful relationships with students, parents, employees, and community members.
As superintendent, Mr. Stone seeks to build the kind of relationships that make for positive school climates, a productive District culture, and an environment in which learning occurs at all levels. Finally, Mr. Stone looks forward to ensuring Mat-Su Borough School District exemplifies best education practices by being Responsive, Resourceful, and Relevant.
